Terms of Service

Effective October 29, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of ChessPandit, the website at chesspandit.com and related services (the "Service"), operated by ChessPandit ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and Refund & Cancellation Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Who can use ChessPandit

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you may use the Service only with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

2. Your account

  • Give accurate information and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account.
  • Tell us promptly at support@chesspandit.com if you suspect unauthorized use.
  • One person per account. Do not share or resell access.

3. What the Service is

ChessPandit is an educational tool for memorizing chess openings, with lessons, practice, spaced-repetition reviews and progress tracking. Chess improvement depends on many factors, and we make no promise about rating gains or results. Opening lines and explanations are provided for learning and may contain mistakes or simplifications; use your own judgment in games.

4. Plans, subscriptions and billing

  • Free plan. Available without a payment method, with the limits shown on our pricing page. We may change Free plan limits from time to time.
  • Paid plans. Pro Monthly is $2.99 per month and Pro Annual is $29.99 per year, plus any applicable taxes. Prices are shown in US dollars.
  • Automatic renewal. Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) and your payment method is charged until you cancel. You authorize us and our payment processor to make these recurring charges.
  • Cancel any time. You can cancel online at any time from Billing, then Manage subscription, without contacting us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you keep paid features until then.
  • Payment processing. Payments are handled by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number.
  • Price changes. We may change prices for future billing periods. We will notify you in advance by email or in the Service, and you may cancel before the new price applies.
  • Failed payments. If a payment fails, we or Stripe may retry it. Paid features may be suspended or end if payment cannot be collected.
  • Refunds. See our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • break the law or infringe anyone's rights;
  • attempt to access accounts, data or systems you are not authorized to use, or probe, scan or test the security of the Service;
  • interfere with or overload the Service, or use bots, scrapers or automated tools to copy course content at scale;
  • copy, resell, redistribute or publicly share our course content or software, except as permitted below;
  • reverse engineer the Service, except where the law does not allow this restriction.

6. Our content and third-party data

The Service, its software, design, course explanations and annotations are owned by us or our licensors and protected by copyright and other laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your own learning.

Opening names and reference move sequences come from the open Lichess openings database, which is released into the public domain (CC0). Chess moves themselves are not copyrightable.

Your learning data (progress, attempts, review history) belongs to you. You give us permission to process it to operate and improve the Service. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.

7. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability and dispute provisions.

8. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE, OR THAT CONTENT WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE. Some states do not allow certain warranty disclaimers, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

9. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND (B) US $50. Some states do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

10. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which the operator is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at support@chesspandit.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve the dispute informally. Any claim must be brought in the state or federal courts located in the jurisdiction where the operator is based, and you and we consent to those courts, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection laws.

11. Changes to the Service and these Terms

We may update the Service and these Terms. If a change is material we will give notice, for example by email or in the Service, before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
